David Nweze Umahi, born on July 25, 1963, in Uburu, Ebonyi State, Nigeria, is a Nigerian politician and civil engineer.

Early education

Umahi began his education at Umunaga Primary School in Uburu and later attended Government Secondary School in Afikpo.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Anambra State University of Science and Technology (now Enugu State University of Science and Technology) in 1987.

Prior to his political career, he co-founded Norman Engineering and Construction Nigeria Ltd and served as the CEO of Brass Engineering and Construction Nigeria Ltd.

Political ascent

Umahi served as the Governor of Ebonyi State from 2015 to 2023 and briefly as a Senator representing Ebonyi South in 2023.

Umahi's tenure as Governor of Ebonyi State was marked by significant infrastructural developments, including the construction of over 20 flyovers and the establishment of the Ebonyi State International Airport.

His administration also focused on education, health, and agriculture, earning him recognition as one of Nigeria's best-performing governors.

Ministerial role and national impact

He is the current Minister of Works, appointed by President Bola Tinubu on August 21, 2023.

Since assuming office, he has initiated ambitious projects such as the Lagos to Calabar Coastal Highway and the rehabilitation of the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.

His leadership in the Ministry of Works has been lauded for its focus on durable infrastructure and efficient project execution.
