Born on April 2, 1996, in Nkol Ngok, Cameroon, André Onana began his football journey at the Samuel Eto'o Academy. In 2010, at the age of 14, he joined FC Barcelona's youth system. Due to FIFA regulations concerning underage non-EU players, Onana spent the 2012–13 season on loan at Cornellà's youth team and the following season at Vista Alegre's first team.
Professional career
Onana signed with Dutch club Ajax in 2015, initially playing for Jong Ajax. He made his senior debut in 2016 and became the first-choice goalkeeper. During his tenure, Ajax secured multiple titles, including the Eredivisie (2018–19, 2020–21, 2021–22) and the KNVB Cup (2018–19, 2020–21). The team also reached the UEFA Europa League final in the 2016–17 season.
In July 2022, Onana joined Italian side Inter Milan on a free transfer. He played a pivotal role in the team's successes, helping them win the Supercoppa Italiana in January 2023 and the Coppa Italia in May 2023. Onana was instrumental in Inter's journey to the 2023 UEFA Champions League final.
On July 20, 2023, Onana signed with English Premier League club Manchester United. He contributed to the team's FA Cup victory in the 2023–24 season and was part of the squad that finished as runners-up in the UEFA Europa League in the 2024–25 season.
International career
Onana debuted for the Cameroon national team in 2016. He was part of the squad that secured third place in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. As of March 2025, he has earned 48 caps for his country.
