Chimaroke Ogbonnaya Nnamani, born on May 30, 1960, in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, is a distinguished medical doctor and seasoned politician from Enugu State. A graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, he specialised in obstetrics and gynaecology, furthering his studies in the United States before returning to Nigeria to serve in various medical institutions.
Nnamani's political journey began with his election as Governor of Enugu State in 1999, a position he held for two consecutive terms until 2007. During his tenure, he introduced significant reforms, including the establishment of the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital and the Nigerian Law School campus in Enugu. His administration also focused on infrastructure development, healthcare, and education, leaving a lasting impact on the state's progress.
After a hiatus, Nnamani returned to the Senate in 2019, representing Enugu East Senatorial District. He served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Cooperation and Integration in Africa/NEPAD and held memberships in several other committees, including Health and Foreign Affairs. In the 2023 elections, he lost his bid for re-election to Labour Party candidate Kelvin Chukwu.
