Plateau State is situated in the North Central Zone of Nigeria, near the centre of the country. It is surrounded by Kaduna and Bauchi states to the north, Taraba state to the southeast, and Nasarawa state to the southwest. The state covers an area of 26,899 square kilometres and has a population of approximately three million people.
Governors
Plateau state was established on February 3, 1976, from the former Benue-Plateau State by the Murtala Mohammed Regime. Caleb Mutfwang (PDP) is currently serving as the governor of Plateau State.
History Timeline
In 1976, Plateau State was formed from the northern part of the former Benue-Plateau state. In May 1967, the Benue and Plateau Provinces were combined to create the large Benue-Plateau State.
