NYSC
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), established in 1973, is a compulsory one-year program for Nigerian graduates under 30, promoting national unity and development. Based in Abuja, it deploys corps members across Nigeria.
Objectives: NYSC fosters unity, encourages skill acquisition, and integrates young graduates into national development through service in diverse communities.
Structure: Managed by the Ministry of Youth Development, NYSC is led by a Director-General. It includes a three-week orientation camp, primary assignments, and community development service (CDS).
Impact: NYSC has mobilised millions, boosting education and healthcare in rural areas. It promotes cultural exchange but faces criticism for relevance.
Challenges: Security risks, inadequate allowances, and logistical issues persist. Recent reforms focus on digitalisation and corps member welfare.
