Education
Kashim Shettima attended Lamisula Primary School, Maiduguri, Borno, from 1972 to 1978, then Government Community Secondary School, Biu, in 1978. He was thereafter admitted into the University of Maiduguri for his degree programme in 1983, and by 1989, he obtained the degree of Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Agric Economics, second Class Upper Division.
Kashim was posted to Calabar for the mandatory one-year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme in 1989 and attached to the Nigeria Agric Cooperative Bank for his primary assignment.
Working career
After graduating, Shettima lectured at the University of Maiduguri in the Department of Agricultural Economics from 1991 to 1993.
He later worked in the banking sector, at the Commercial Bank of Africa as an Agricultural Economist (1993 - 1997), the African International Bank Limited, Kaduna Branch (1997–2001). He was appointed Deputy Manager/Branch Head of the Zenith Bank's Maiduguri Office in 2001.
Political career timeline
In 2007, Shettima was appointed Commissioner of the Borno State Ministry of Finance and Economic Development. He was later appointed Commissioner in the Ministries of Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs, Education, Agriculture and Health.
He succeeded Ali Modu Sheriff after Engineer Modu Fannami Gubio, who was selected as a candidate for the governorship, died. Shettima replaced him at the gubernatorial elections and won. He served two terms as governor.
Kashim Shettima served as a senator in Nigeria, he represented Borno Central from 2019 to 2023.
After winning the primary for the 2022 senatorial election, he withdrew from the nomination to become Bola Tinubu's running mate for the 2023 presidential election which they won.
