The federal government has commenced the process of reclaiming old grazing routes in Nigeria despite massive opposition to the exercise by southern states.

The ban on open grazing in the southern parts of the country appears to be causing tensions in the country. A group is threatening to violently oppose the ban.

Residents in Benue have blamed herdsmen for the killing of five people who were on the way to their farms. Sources said two of the victims were APC members.

The Southern Governors Forum has reiterated its ban on open grazing across southern Nigeria, adding that no land will be ceded to invaders posing as herdsmen.
