Funke Akindele, born Olufunke Ayotunde Akindele, turned 49 on Monday, August 24, 2026, marking the occasion with a series of stunning birthday photos on Instagram alongside a deeply personal message to her followers.

Funke Akindele was born in Ikorodu, Lagos State, in 1977, to a medical doctor mother and a retired school principal father.
She obtained an OND in Mass Communication from Moshood Abiola Polytechnic before earning a Law degree from the University of Lagos.
Acting, however, claimed her heart before any courtroom could.
Funke Akindele's first major role came as "Bisi" in the UNFPA-sponsored sitcom I Need to Know, which ran from 1998 to 2002.
It was the 2008 film Jenifa, though, that transformed her into a household name across Nigeria, earning her the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role and eventually spawning the long-running television series Jenifa's Diary.
