Osogbo, Osun state - The Osun State Police Command has confirmed that shots were fired near the Naira and Kobo Garage in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area (LGA), following reports that five people were killed in a struggle for control of the facility.
Per Premium Times, police spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi confirmed the shooting on Monday, August 24, but cautioned that the Command had not yet verified the reported casualties.

Legit.ng sighted a viral graphic video purportedly showing a man inside a vehicle with an apparent gunshot injury to the head.
Ojelabi said:
"We are still gathering the information as to what is happening there. I can only confirm there were shootings around that area."
Reports circulating on Facebook and X, including posts by Osogbo Updates and Adeleke Youth Development Initiative, claimed that three commercial bus drivers and two passersby lost their lives after a confrontation broke out at the garage.
One of the posts further alleged that the Divisional Police Officer in Ikire, Olatona Bamidele, cleared the road to allow a group of individuals described as thugs to access and take over the facility. Legit.ng could not independently confirm these claims.

Security concerns over the motorpark in Ikire reflect the wider contest for grassroots political structures that has continued well beyond election day, raising fears that the transition period could trigger further confrontations at the local level.

Osun election 2026: MURIC blasts INEC
