2027 Elections: Popular PDP Lawmakers Dump Party for APC, Reason Emerges
- The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo state suffered a heavy blow as two lawmakers in Ondo state have abandoned the party and joined the ruling APC
- The lawmakers gave a reason for this decision and declared the APC as the most viable party ahead of the 2027 elections

The fold of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Ondo state chapter, has been further depleted as two lawmakers elected under the party’s platform defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

Lawmakers cite irreconcilable differences
The two lawmakers, Felix Afe and Tope Agbulu, representing Akoko North-West Constituency II and Akoko South-West Constituency II, respectively, tendered their resignation letters during plenary, which were read by the Clerk of the House, Mr. Benjamin Jayeola.
According to the legislators, irreconcilable differences within the PDP in the state were their reason for quitting the party.
As reported by The Guardian, with Afe disclosing that his decision to dump the PDP was reached after wide consultations with his constituents and stakeholders, he stressed that joining the APC would enable him to deliver more dividends of democracy to his people.
Agbulu, on his part, described the APC as the most viable political platform to serve his constituency effectively, while expressing appreciation to the PDP for the support he enjoyed during his membership.
With the defections, the APC now controls 24 out of the 26 seats in the Assembly, leaving the PDP with only two members.

Atiku: Saraki reacts as 4 senators dump PDP
In a related development, Legit.ng reported that former Senate president, Dr. Bukola Saraki, slammed Atiku Abubakar and other top politicians who dumped the PDP and moved to the ruling APC and the ADC.

Lawmaker defects to APC, video trends
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that a member of the House of Representatives has dumped the PDP for the ruling APC.
Hon. Festus Olarewaju Akingbaso, who represents Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency of Ondo state joined the ruling APC on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
