BASF exits Xinjiang ventures after Uyghur abuse reports

German chemicals giant BASF said Tuesday it had exited two joint ventures in China's Xinjiang region after its local partner was alleged to have participated in rights abuses against the local Uyghur minority. BASF said at the time it had no indication that employees of the joint ventures were involved in rights violations, only staff of its local partner.

Sweden, Finland, Norway and Lithuania plan to beef up military capabilities around the Baltic Sea with a joint order for several hundred CV90 combat vehicles, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said Tuesday. "Our focus right now is on a potential coordinated acquisition of the CV90 infantry fighting vehicles with Sweden, Lithuania, Finland and Norway together," Kristersson said.
