The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), established in 1891, is a federal agency under the Ministry of Finance, responsible for trade facilitation, revenue collection, and border security.

Headquartered in Abuja, it operates across Nigeria’s ports, borders, and airports, led by the Comptroller-General.

With thousands of personnel, NCS enforces customs laws, prevents smuggling, and collects import/export duties, contributing significantly to national revenue.

Key operations include trade compliance, anti-smuggling, and implementing ECOWAS trade protocols.

Despite challenges like corruption allegations and porous borders, NCS has modernised with e-Customs platforms like NICIS II to enhance efficiency.

It collaborates with agencies like the NDLEA to curb illicit trade. The NCS also engages in capacity building and community outreach to promote compliance and economic growth.
