Ibadan

Ibadan is the capital city of Oyo State, located in southwestern Nigeria. It is one of the largest cities in Nigeria by land area and population. It is known as a historic, cultural, and educational hub of the Yoruba people. It is the home of the first television in Africa (NTA Ibadan) first Nigerian University (University of Ibadan, UI), first University Teaching Hospital in Nigeria (University College hospital, UCH), first sports stadium in Africa (Liberty Stadium) and first city to produce a club side that won international trophy, 3SC won the first edition of CAF Cup in 1976.

Historical Background and Significance

Founded in the 1820s as a war camp by warriors from the old Oyo Empire. It grew rapidly to become a major centre for trade, politics, and administration.

Colonial Era:

Ibadan became an important administrative capital during British colonial rule. The first Western university in Nigeria, the University of Ibadan, was established there in 1948.
