Ahmedu Augustine Obiabo, professionally known as Blackface Naija or simply Blackface, was born in Ogwule, Agatu, Benue state, Nigeria. He is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer, recognised for his contributions to dancehall, ragga, reggae, and hip hop genres. Blackface is notably the co-writer of "African Queen," a song that gained international acclaim when performed by 2Baba (formerly 2face Idibia) on his 2004 debut solo album, "Face 2 Face".
Formation and success with Plantashun Boyz
In 2000, Blackface co-founded the Nigerian music group Plantashun Boyz alongside 2Baba and Chibuzor Oji (known as Faze). The trio met during their college years at the Institute of Management and Technology in Enugu, Nigeria. The group released two successful albums: "Body and Soul" in 2000 and "Sold Out" in 2003. Despite their success, the band disbanded in 2004, briefly reuniting in 2007 to release the album "Plan B"
Solo career and musical endeavours
Following the group's initial split, Blackface embarked on a solo career, releasing his debut album "Ghetto Child" in May 2004. The album featured collaborations with various artists, including the single "Hard Life" featuring Alabai. He also produced an album for his crew, D Tribunal, titled "What We Are." Blackface continued to release music, including albums such as "Evergreen," "Jungle Fever," "Me, Musiq and I," "Dancehall Business," and the anticipated "Defender".
Personal life
Blackface was married to Dayo for eight years, and the couple has two children, Caroline and Alex. They have since separated, with divorce proceedings underway.
