Gospel singer Asu Eriye has stepped forward to address widespread public reaction following the announcement of his divorce, insisting that he did not initiate the end of his 28-year marriage.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, August 22, 2026, directed at fans who had been reaching out with questions, Asu Eriye stated that his wife was the one who chose to leave.

According to him, she expressed her desire to end the marriage, moved out of their home, and went on to file for divorce without any preceding argument or confrontation.

The singer added that he spent roughly a year after her departure trying to win her back, appealing to her through every means available to him. Despite those efforts, his wife did not change her position, and he ultimately accepted the situation.

"Having done all I could to seek reconciliation, I eventually came to the difficult decision to accept the reality of the situation and allow the divorce process to take its course," he wrote.

Asu Eriye was clear that his clarification was not meant to paint anyone in a bad light, and he stated he holds no bitterness towards his estranged wife. He described his intention to move forward with "grace, dignity, maturity and respect for all concerned."

The post did not sit well with many who read it. Several commenters challenged the singer's framing of events, arguing that a woman does not walk away from a nearly three-decade marriage without serious cause.
