Minna, Niger State - The National Examinations Council (NECO) released the results of its 2025 Internal Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) last week.
Legit.ng recalls that NECO revealed that over 818,000 candidates earned five credits, including Mathematics and English.

The Council reported a significant drop in examination malpractice cases, with a 61.58% reduction compared to the previous year.
The performance of candidates across the 36 states of the federation has emerged.

NECO 2025 Internal: Top 10 states by performance
Candidates in these states passed the 2025 NECO SSCE with at least five credits, including English and Mathematics.

2. Imo 83.09%
3. Ebonyi 80.60%
4. Anambra 76.80%
5. Bayelsa 73.88%
6. Delta 73.10%
7. Osun 72.64%
8. Ogun 72.21%
9. Lagos 71.76%
10. Ekiti 68.50%
NECO: Schools, States involved in examination malpractice
Recall that NECO announced the number of schools in 13 states that were implicated in the whole-school cheating during the 2025 SSCE.
NECO revealed that nine supervisors have been recommended for blacklisting over aiding malpractice, poor conduct, and indiscipline.
Despite infractions, NECO released results in record time, with over 60% of candidates earning five Credits, including Maths and English.
NECO reduces English Language Exam questions from 100 to 80
In a previous story, Legit.ng reported that NECO announced a plan to streamline the English language exam in the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE).
The examination body said it will slash questions in the English Language Paper III from 100 to 80 from 2026 SSCE Internal exams.
The State Coordinator for Osun State, Sunday K. Bolaji, disclosed the six sections in the new paper structure.
