Candidates

It should be mentioned that deadline for federal and state higher institution admission is the 15th of January, 2018. The private institutions must complete the enrollment of students by the 31st of January, 2018.

Nigerian Polytechnics have to make decisions concerning the first choice candidates’ admission by the 15th of October 2017, and the last day for candidates of the second choice is the 15th of December 2017. Then students will can now have the opportunity to choose any other University or Polytechnic until the January closing date.

In addition, the JAMB Registrar, Is-haq Oloyede reiterated that CAPS (the Central Admission Processing System) would be used for the regulation of the admission processes into higher institutions (polytechnics included). He mentioned that tertiary institutions could also adopt the dual-mode system.

To avoid illegal admissions, Mr. Is-haq Oloyede added that the process of admission will work automatically and candidates have to be confirmed by the JAMB Registrar.

Also, Mr. Adamu Adamu (the Minister of Education) announced a cancellation of the Post-UTME examination prohibition. He claimed that post-UTME prohibition led a lot of candidates and some tertiary institution to violate the rules.

Since the ban has been canceled, candidates now need to take an exam before admission. The fee for the exam should not be over 2000 Naira. Mr. Adamu Adamu also believed that a high percentage of candidates who participated in the 2017 UTME will get the chance to enter tertiary education institutions in Nigeria this academic year.
