Lagos 2027 Race: “I’ll Quit Politics than Align with Tinubu,” Rhodes-Vivour Shares Why

In a trending interview on Sunday, September 6, the 2023 governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, ruled out the possibility of aligning with the political structure of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to enable him to become the governor of Lagos state.

Rhodes-Vivour, who appeared as a guest on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, said it would be a complete waste of time for him to do so.

He said:

“No, I will rather go and focus on my business, my work, and my family. That [aligning with Tinubu] will be a complete waste of time.
“The reason why we are in politics is to make the lives of Lagosians better; it is to restore Lagos to its old glory — glory that a lot of people might not really be familiar with in terms of the history of Lagos, and the greatness that Lagos once was.
“Any party that will not allow me to maximise the commonwealth of Lagos for the benefit of its people is a complete waste of time.”

2027: Rhodes-Vivour Hints at Lagos guber bid

Legit.ng earlier reported that on Saturday, September 6, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

But in an interview on Sunday, Rhodes-Vivour said he chose to join the coalition to face the ruling party in Lagos state.

Speaking on whether he would contest the Lagos state governorship election in 2027 on the platform of the ADC, he said:

“By God’s grace.”

Lagos guber: Ambode seeks return to power in 2027

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that former governor of Lagos state, Akinwunmi Ambode, promised to lead the campaign of President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid in the South-West region.

Buttressing his call, Ambode also reiterated his intention to seek a return as governor of Lagos state, promising to build on past gains while addressing present realities.

In a related development, Legit.ng reported that a chieftain of the ruling APC, Joe Igbokwe, said Seyi Tinubu does not possess the required capacity to be the governor of Lagos state.

Igbokwe, in a Facebook post, criticised those advocating for Seyi to be Lagos governor. The APC chieftain described the calls as a distraction and an attempt to pull President Tinubu down.
