2027 elections: “You might be forced to return to Lagos,” Buhari’s ex-minister warns Tinubu
According to El-Rufai, who was once a prominent campaigner for Tinubu, the president’s current political trajectory lacked a viable path to victory.
Speaking with Legit.ng on Tuesday, September 2, Dare Glintstone Akinniyi backed El-Rufai's prediction.
The analyst told Legit.ng that:
"El-Rufai was a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and campaigned for President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election, but now has Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi as his current strongest coalition allies. He is now one of the leaders of a new coalition named African Democratic Congress (ADC), which wants to dislodge Tinubu’s APC in 2027.
"His recent interview shows he is ready to demarket the APC [his former party] in the North and this is in alignment with what he has been saying for a while. He is saying President Tinubu won't have a chance come next election probably APC will lose woefully, going by the mood of the country at the moment.
"Realistically, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai is very correct with his prediction turned assumption. It will be easier for the camel to go through the eye of a needle than President Tinubu winning his re-election bid in 2027.
"So, Tinubu not being on the ballot by El-Rufai is just literally saying the president won't have a space to be the winner and will come distance third."

2027: APC losing ground in the north - Akinniyi
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that in June 2025, El-Rufai officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP). The former Kaduna state governor joined Atiku Abubakar and other major opposition leaders, including the Labour Party’s Peter Obi, to form a coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The alliance is expected to challenge President Tinubu in the 2027 election.
Speaking further, Dare Glintstone Akinniyi asserted that President Tinubu cannot win the 2027 presidential election because his current reform policies "are anti-people".
He explained that the defection of top politicians to the ADC spells doom for the party's victory in the upcoming elections, as they are gradually losing their grip, even in the northern region of the country.
Akinniyi opined thus:
"President Tinubu can't win the 2027 Presidential election, there is no magic that APC can pull.
"So far, the policies of the government are anti-people and it's going to be difficult for anyone to promote or market APC to the electorates. The implication is that APC will lose the central government seat and any state governorship seats. When you look at the wave of defection into the African Democratic Congress - ADC, you will agree that APC is losing already— inward North."

2027 election: Dalung predicts Tinubu's defeat
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Solomon Dalung, a former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, warned that President Bola Tinubu may be forced to return to Lagos after just one term in office.
Dalung, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), expressed confidence that the opposition coalition can defeat Tinubu in the 2027 election.
The former minister claimed that the failure of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to meet Nigerians’ expectations has opened the door for new political forces like the ADC.
