BREAKING: Tribunal Sacks Nasarawa Governor Sule, Declares PDP's Ombugadu As Winner

Lafia, Nasarawa state - The governorship election petition tribunal sitting in Nasarawa state has nullified the election of Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state.

The court declared David Emmanuel Ombugadu, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the election, as the winner.

Delivering the judgment virtually, the chairman of the tribunal, Justice Ezekiel Ajayi declared Ombugadu as the lawfully elected governor of the state, Vanguard reported.

In a ruling delivered on Monday, two of the justices agreed that the election was won by the PDP while one judge dissented, PremiumTimes reported.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Sule as the election winner.

He polled a total of 347,209 votes to defeat his closest opponent, Ombugadu, who secured 283,016 votes.

PDP reacts to Ombugadu's win against Gov Sule at the tribunal

Reacting to the development, the PDP via a post on its Facebook page, described Ombugadu's victory as a "testament that the PDP and its candidate were cheated by the electoral umpire and the ruling APC".

The party noted that the "PDP will continue to reclaim its stolen mandates at the national level and in all the states of the federation".

Tribunal delivers judgement on LP’s petition against Gov Fubara’s election

In another similar development, reported that the Rivers governorship election petition tribunal sitting in Abuja rejected the petition brought by Beatrice Itubo, the governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the state.

The court’s decision on Monday, October 2, comes after Justice Emifonye-led tribunal dismissed the petition for "lacking merit" and for failing to prove their allegations.

Tribunal gives verdict on NNPP suit challenging Gov Sule’s election reported earlier that the Nasarawa state election tribunal dismissed the petition filed by the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) against Sule's victory.

The tribunal held that the NNPP's petition against the election of Sule lacked merit and was dismissed accordingly with no cost accorded.
