That uncertainty, she noted, did not determine the course of her studies, as she later developed the determination needed to continue.
Fathia stated that her academic performance improved following her first-year examinations, when she recorded a cumulative grade point average of 3.42 out of 4.0.
She also revealed that she did not own a smartphone throughout much of her undergraduate programme.
As a result, she frequently borrowed devices from others in order to complete online assessments, submit assignments and conduct research.
She emphasised that these obstacles did not prevent her from pursuing her goals.
The graduate added that she received the Award of Academic Excellence from the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria at the University of Ibadan in recognition of her first-class result from the Department of Adult Education.

The graduate recalled that the COVID-19 pandemic and her involvement in entrepreneurship further altered her path.
During her second year she began a fashion business, sewing outfits even during examination periods.
The demands of the venture affected her academic performance, and she later discovered that her grades had dropped to a second-class level.
She chose not to view the result until her final year in order to avoid distraction.
According to her, the period that followed became a search for balance between business and study.
She encountered academic setbacks, including resits, but continued to work on both her fashion brand and her coursework.
Over time she regained her standing and earned recognition as the best student in entrepreneurship on three occasions.
She was also named the most versatile student in pharmacy school and served as executive of the year during her tenure as public relations officer.
At graduation she added further distinctions, including an award for the most outstanding student from the Nigerian Association of Pharmacists in Academia and a distinction in pharmacognosy and herbal medicine.
