Police counter Ganduje over death of 16 travelers

- Governor Ganduje has been called out by the police over his statement on the death of some Kano travellers

Following allegations that bandits killed about 16 travellers on Abuja-Kaduna expressway, the police in the state have dismissed the report.

Governor Umar Ganduja of Kano state had claimed that the travellers who were from Dambatta local government area of Kano, were shot dead.

And in a swift reaction, the police dismissed Gaunduje's allegations.

The police's position was stated by Umar Muri, commissioner of police in Kaduna. According to him, the victims died in an accident.

He claimed that the driver lost of the vehicle conveying them, lost control at a point at Rigachukun, in Igabi local government area of Kaduna as the vehicle consequently somersaulted, killing nine of the passengers while the 10 others sustained injuries.

Recall that Legit.ng had reported that the deteriorating security situation in the country again came to the fore after 16 passengers in a vehicle traveling along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway were killed by gunmen.

The travellers who had visited Abuja on a business trip were on their way back to Kano on Wednesday, December 9, when the attack occurred.

A source disclosed that the bus conveying the victims was involved in an accident after the tire was shot by gunmen.

In another report, a former federal lawmaker in Kaduna central, Shehu Sani, has made a very shocking revelation on the activities of bandits in the northern states especially in Zamfara.

On his Twitter page on Wednesday, November 11, Sani claimed that the criminals now collect tax from poor farmers in order to allow them to cultivate crops on farmlands.

The former senator, therefore, called on security authorities and governors in the region to look into the issue.
