- It seems that there is no limit to how far criminals can go in carrying out their crimes in the northern region
- There is a new allegation that bandits in Zamfara now collect VAT from peasant farmers before they can work on their farmlands
- This claim was made by Shehu Sani on Wednesday, November 11
A former federal lawmaker in Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has made a very shocking revelation on the activities of bandits in the northern states, especially in Zamfara.
On his Twitter page on Wednesday, November 11, Sani claimed that the criminals now collect tax from poor farmers in order to allow them to cultivate crops on farmlands.
The former senator, therefore, called on security authorities and governors in the region to look into the issue.
"Bandits in Zamfara and some Northwestern states reportedly collecting tax or VAT from peasant farmers to permit them to farm should be seriously tackled."
Meanwhile, in their continuous onslaught towards activities of Boko Haram terrorists and bandits, the Nigerian troop had neutralised two suspected armed bandits along Abuja and Kaduna expressway.
According to a statement released by the Major General John Enenche, the coordinator of the defence media operation on Monday, October 5, the bandits were killed by the Operation Thunder Strike.
Enenche said the attack, which was carried out on Sunday, October 4, was successfully coordinated following a credible intelligence on the movement of some suspected bandits towards the Abuja-Kaduna road.
He also stated that during the superior crossfire between the operatives of the Thunder Strike and the criminals, many bandits escaped with various degrees of gunshot wounds. Part of the statement read:
"Troops deployed at Rijana acting on credible intelligence on the movement of some suspected bandits towards Abuja-Kaduna expressway swiftly mobilized to the scene and laid ambush along the suspected bandit’s route."
