Gunmen kill mobile policeman in Delta, cart away rifle

In what will come as another shock to Nigerians, a policeman has been killed by gunmen in Delta state.

After the criminals shot the mobile police officer, they waited and confirmed that he was dead. After this, they took his rifle and went away with it.

The incident, according to Premium Times occured on Friday, December 11, along Jakpa Road, in Effurun, Uvwie local government area of Delta state. The killed officer is said to be attached to VIP.

According to a witness, Obaro Okoro, the slain policeman was shot repeatedly by the gunmen. He said they operated for at least 20 minutes.

He said:

“After killing the policeman, the gunmen, who were not masked, carted away the service AK 47 rifle. The gunmen waited until their target gave up the ghost before zooming off to an unknown destination with another vehicle.

Recall that Legit.ng had reported that a band of hoodlums in Ogun on Thursday, December 10, broke into the state's House of Assembly and carted away the mace.

The thugs burgled the office of the speaker of the Assembly where the mace was kept.

The incident was confirmed by the spokesman of the police command in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi.

Meanwhile, Nigerians have reacted to the latest development, with many questioning why the police continue to risk their lives for what they describe as an unrewarding job.

AbdulRahmon Ishola wrote on Facebook:

"Why are these policemen risking their lives in futility, low or zero salary, substandard firearms. Why can't you guys resign and let the government do the needful?"

"Pains me seriously anytime I hear about the killing of a policeman and other security personnel. They're the nice guys protecting us from the bad guys. Bad guys like these bloodsuckers that killed this policeman. This stolen rifle can be used on innocent people anywhere.
"Please stop harming policemen. They're there for you and I most of the time. Forget about the terrible antics of a few. Believe me most policemen are good people. May the souls of policemen killed RIP. And may their families be comforted."

Felix Ajeibi added:

"Too bad, and when the police react now, we will begin to see EndSars again. Respect your police who have done a lot for society."

Legit.ng had also reported that the police recovered the stolen mace.

However, report indicated that the mace was recovered in Lagos by the police on Friday, December 11, at about 8.30am.
