Number of local governments in each state in Nigeria 2024

Nigeria is between the Gulf of Guinea to the south and the Sahel to the north in the Atlantic Ocean. The country has several states, and each state is divided into Local Government Areas. Discover the names and number of local governments in each state in Nigeria from this article.

Nigeria is 923,769 square kilometres (356,669 sq mi) big, with a coastline of 853 km (530.0 mi). Its population of over 218 million makes it one of the world's top ten most populous countries. States and Local Government Areas of Nigeria have different population sizes.

Names and number of local governments in each state in Nigeria

Nigeria has 37 states, including the Federal Capital Territory, and each is divided into Local Government Areas (LGAs). LGAs are further subdivided into wards. LGAs are under the Local Government Councils, with the Local Government Chairman as the head of Councillors from each ward. Below is a list of states and local governments in Nigeria.
