Early Life and Education
Udom Emmanuel was born on July 11, 1966, in Awa Iman, Onna Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. He attended Secondary Commercial School, Ikot Akpan Ishiet, Onna LGA, where he obtained his West African Secondary School Certificate. He proceeded to the School of Arts and Science, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, obtaining Advanced Certificate of Basic Studies (CBS) and Higher School Certificate (HSC). Emmanuel earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Lagos in 1988. He furthered his education at the London Business School and completed the Advanced Management Programme at INSEAD, France.
Career
Emmanuel began his professional career as an audit manager at Price Waterhouse Coopers. He later joined Zenith Bank Plc in 1996, where he held various positions, including group head of Income Optimization, Financial Control & Strategic Planning Department, and ultimately served as an executive director. His career in the banking sector spanned over seventeen years .
Political Career
In July 2013, Emmanuel was appointed Secretary to the State Government of Akwa Ibom State. He contested and won the governorship election in April 2015 under the People's Democratic Party (PDP) platform, defeating 22 other aspirants in the primaries. He was re-elected in the 2019 gubernatorial election, serving as the Governor of Akwa Ibom State from May 29, 2015, to May 29, 2023.
