The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, Rauf Aregbesola, has dismissed speculations linking him with a possible return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that he remains fully committed to the ADC ahead of the 2027 general election.

The gathering attracted party leaders and members from the 332 wards across the state.

According to a statement issued by the Osun ADC publicity secretary-elect, Oluwaseun Abosede, the former governor also used the meeting to formally introduce the party’s governorship candidate for the August 15 election, Dr Najeem Salaam, to party faithful.

Aregbesola dismisses APC return rumour

Addressing stakeholders at the meeting, Aregbesola described reports suggesting that he was planning to return to the APC as false and without merit.

Speaking on his relationship with the ruling party, the former minister said he had no reason to reconsider his decision to leave.

“Claims that I am returning to the APC are baseless and laughable. Since my exit from the APC over three years ago, I have had no reason whatsoever to look back,” he stated.

Ex-governor accuses APC of abandoning its ideals

Aregbesola also criticised the APC, accusing the party of straying from the principles upon which it was founded.

According to him, governance should prioritise the welfare and security of citizens, values he claimed have now been neglected.

“The APC has completely abandoned the foundational vision and people-oriented ideals upon which governance should stand. The primary essence of government remains welfare and security, both of which have been neglected and thrown into the dustbin,” he said.

ADC members urged to intensify mobilisation

Reaffirming his loyalty to the ADC, Aregbesola said the party had continued to grow despite attempts by political opponents to frustrate its progress, Punch reported.

He urged party members and stakeholders to strengthen mobilisation efforts at the grassroots level in preparation for future elections.

The former governor also expressed confidence that the ADC would perform strongly in the 2027 polls if members remained united and dedicated to the party’s objectives.

Omoluabi group explains exit from APC

The development comes months after the Omoluabi Progressives, a political group loyal to Aregbesola, formally announced its exit from the APC, Vanguard reported.

In a statement signed by Abosede, the group said the decision was reached during a stakeholders’ meeting attended by representatives from all 332 wards in Osun state.

The group cited alleged marginalisation, suspension and expulsion of members without fair hearing as part of the reasons for leaving the ruling party.

It also expressed dissatisfaction with the APC’s handling of internal disputes, which it claimed contributed to the party’s poor outing during the last election cycle.

Court suspends ruling of ADC leaders indefinitely

Previously, Legit.ng reported that a fresh legal setback has hit the African Democratic Congress (ADC) after a Federal High Court in Abuja indefinitely adjourned a suit challenging the party’s leadership structure under former Senate President David Mark.

The development is expected to deepen uncertainty within the opposition coalition, reportedly involving key political figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, ahead of the 2027 political realignments.
