BREAKING: APC National Chairman Adamu Finally Announces Party's Consensus Candidate

FCT, Abuja - A report by The Nation states that the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has announced Senate President Ahmed Lawan as the party's consensus presidential aspirant.

The newspaper added that crisis has hit the ruling party following the alleged announcement by Senator Adamu.

The APC chairman was reported to have made the announcement at the meeting of National Working Committee (NWC) on Monday, June 6, in Abuja.

Adamu allegedly told the NWC that he arrived at the choice of Lawan after consultation with President Muhammadu Buhari.

Other aspirants will be allowed to contest

Though Adamu announced Lawan as the consensus aspirant, it was gathered that other aspirants will be allowed to contest the primary at the convention holding on Tuesday, June 7, at the Eagle Square, Abuja.

Other aspirants still in the race include Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Rotimi Amaechi, and David Umahi, among others.

Other members of the NWC reportedly insisted that other aspirants must be given a level playing ground to compete at the primaries.

Legit.ng notes that Adamu’s alleged adoption of Lawan as consensus candidate is against the position of 11 APC northern Governors who had agreed that power must shift to the South after President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that President Buhari broke his silence on the method of choosing the presidential candidate of the APC during the forthcoming presidential primary.

The president advised the APC governors to focus on the changing dynamics of the country and the expectations of Nigerians in electing a candidate.

He urged them to have victory as their major focus in the entire process, adding that the flagbearer must be someone who will give a sense of confidence to the masses.
