University of Nigeria Best Graduating Student With 4.95 CGPA Shares Admission Journey, Study Tips

Osefo Marycynthia Chiadikobi, a pharmacy graduate from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, has opened up about the long road that led to her graduating as the best student in her faculty with a near-perfect CGPA of 4.95 out of 5.0.
Originally from Umuoji in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State, Marycynthia grew up in Awka and developed an early interest in healthcare.

In this interview with Legit.ng, Marycynthia shared how she gained admission, her pharmacy journey, and her ambition.
UNN best-graduating student shares admission experience
Marycynthia said she considered both medicine and nursing before choosing pharmacy, drawn by the range of career paths it offers across industry, academia, regulatory bodies and community practice.
Getting into UNN was no straightforward journey. In 2019, Marycynthia sat for WAEC, GCE and JAMB simultaneously, throwing herself into a punishing study routine to give each exam the attention it deserved.
Her words:
"My admission journey was not an easy one. I wrote JAMB in the year 2019; I scored 317. I honestly would say that I dedicated the year 2019 to academics."
Pharmacy graduate shares why she chose UNN
Her initial motivation for choosing UNN was partly personal: she wanted the independence of studying away from home. But the university's academic reputation also weighed heavily in its favour.
As one of the first universities established in the South-East, UNN has produced distinguished alumni including the late Prof Dora Akunyili, the former Director-General of NAFDAC.
Marycynthia found that the institution lived up to its standing. The faculty was staffed by well-travelled professors and doctors who regularly introduced students to global opportunities. The library met a high standard, and being enrolled at UNN opened doors to merit-based scholarships she was able to access as an undergraduate.
She said:
"The experience in UNN was more than I expected. UNN is actually a reputable university. It made it easier to assess some merit based scholarships as an undergraduate. The lecturers and the academic standard is still one of the very best.
"We have so many Professors and Doctors lecturing in the school. They are well exposed and informs you about global opportunities. The school library is highly equipped and up to the required standard. I would recommend UNN to anyone who wants to school in the South- East and also have access to good quality education."
Sharing her study tips, she said:
"Maybe I would say being consistent in studying. Seeking advice from mentors and senior colleagues. Participating in other extracurricular activities that are beyond just classroom learning. Attending webinars and seminars anytime I get the opportunity."

From faculty best to University top graduate
Her 4.95 CGPA earned her the title of overall best graduating student in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. That result then placed her in contention for the university-wide best graduating student award, where her CGPA was assessed alongside those of the top graduates from every other faculty at UNN.
For Marycynthia, the achievement is the product of years of deliberate preparation, stretching back to those long days at a state library in Awka long before she set foot on campus.
Sharing how she held positions including Assistant Welfare Chairperson (ISPOR-HEOR), Welfare Chairperson (ISPOR-HEOR), Vice President CAPSAN, Academic Coordinator CAPSAN, and Honourable Member, PANS House of Representatives.
Her words:
"Well. It was not easy balancing my academic life and my extracurricular activities. I had to discipline myself. My primary purpose in UNN was to study. So I made sure to develop a study routine that works for me. If I attend activities during the day, I wake up at night to study.
"So I had to learn proper time management and to avoid procrastination. I started reading on time so that my materials do not pile up and I will not be under unnecessary pressure."
Speaking of her future ambition, she said:
"I intend to take my dreams beyond the shores of Nigeria. Starting from getting an Msc. I hope to learn from the more developed countries and bring back the knowledge to my home country.
"I hope to be a globally renowned pharmacist. To produce substantial solutions to the health care needs of members of my local community. Either through drug manufacturing or researching to discover innovative methods of care."
