Samuel Oluolamide Adebanjo, the overall best-graduating student at Lagos State University (LASU) for the 2025/2026 academic session, used his moment in the spotlight to look back rather than forward, dedicating his viral post on X to the people who kept him going during the darkest years of his life.

The 22-year-old Aerospace Engineering graduate, who finished with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.97 out of 5.00, shared his story on 23 August 2026.
His performance placed him first among 8,653 graduates across all faculties, earning him N20 million from Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and an additional N10 million from the Sunbeth Excellence Partnership Programme (SEPP).
From school fee struggles to LASU BGS
Adebanjo's path to academic excellence was shaped by grinding financial hardship. While in Junior Secondary School in Lagos, his family could no longer afford his school fees, and he was turned away from school.
The situation forced the family to relocate to Sango Ota in Ogun State, where he enrolled at Top's Bright International School. Even there, the fees proved difficult to manage, and he was sent home repeatedly over outstanding balances.
Through all of it, Adebanjo kept studying and kept finishing first in his class. His consistency caught the attention of the school's proprietor, who responded with extraordinary generosity.
He said:
"Seeing my dedication, my school proprietor did something remarkable: he cleared all my outstanding debts, granted me a full scholarship through SS3, covered my WAEC fees, and supported my UTME fees."

Beyond the proprietor, Adebanjo reserved deep gratitude for the classroom teachers who quietly stepped in to make sure he did not go hungry.
Giving shout-out to them, he said:
"I will never forget the teachers who believed in me, teachers who gave me money to buy food to eat during school lunch break, Master Timothy Chinedu, and Mr. Tayo Ajileye, who enrolled me in free extra lessons. Everyone supported me with the little they had. That kindness proved to me early on that hard work and diligence pay off."
With that foundation behind him, Adebanjo entered LASU driven by a desire to honour every person who had invested in him. He did not disappoint. His 4.97 CGPA made him the standout graduate of his entire cohort, and the N30 million in rewards that followed his graduation has since drawn widespread attention online.
