Man apologises over VDM controversial video
Following the backlash, the man expressed remorse and attempted to clarify why he had recorded and shared the material.
Identified as @enmkoo on Instagram, he explained that he took responsibility for both capturing and distributing the video.
He admitted that the recording had been exaggerated by others online and that he was the source of its release.
He offered an apology to the audience, arguing that without his post, certain speculations about VDM that were being promoted would have lacked a person to carry them forward.
According to his explanation, the recording was made during a demonstration in Abuja that VeryDarkMan led to protest against insecurity.
The man stated that prior to attending the protest, he had made a personal vow to safeguard the Ratel president.
He maintained that his intention at the event was to participate and to ensure that no harm came to the president.
The young man recalled a moment during the protest when VeryDarkMan was seen leaving the venue alongside members of the Nigerian military.
Observing this, the man thought that an arrest was taking place. He claimed that VeryDarkMan had instructed protesters to return home, but the announcement was difficult to hear because the microphone used was not loud enough.

Those at the front of the crowd, including himself, struggled to listen to the message that their leader passed.
This confusion caused him to move towards the military vehicle, and to interact with one of the personnel inside.
He noted that coordinators later shouted for everyone to go back, and that VeryDarkMan was not detained by the soldiers.
Instead, the commentator was allowed to leave for home. Hearing the coordinators and realising that no arrest had occurred, the man decided to return as well.
He concluded his statement by directing an apology towards the Ratels personnel for having posted the video.
He also addressed the wider audience, asking if they had viewed the footage he shared.

Reactions to his apology were divided. Some Nigerians accepted his explanation and forgave him for the controversy, while others used the comment section to express opposing views about his actions and the implications of the video.
