Akungba-Akoko, Ondo state - A young boy was beaten to death for allegedly plucking cocoa pods in Akungba-Akoko, Akoko South West local government area of Ondo state.
A man reportedly assaulted the young boy after accusing him of harvesting his cocoa unlawfully at the Alumni quarters in Akungba.

According to Vanguard, the victim was taken to the police station after the assault, unconscious around 2:30 p.m.
He was immediately referred for medical treatment and was confirmed dead hours later.
The state police spokesperson, Ayanlade Olayinka, said the police detectives have arrested the suspect after the tragic incident.
He called on the residents of Ondo state to refrain from taking the law into their own hands
Ayanlade disclosed that the body of the deceased had been deposited in the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
He further stated that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, in Akure for thorough investigation.
The police image maker assured the people that justice would be served.
He warned against jungle justice, stating that it is counterproductive to societal peace and justice.
