“Terrorists Using Gold to Fund Operations,” CDS Musa Drops Bombshell, Video Trends

On Thursday, August 21, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, revealed that terrorists in Nigeria are increasingly using gold as a means to finance their operations.

Terrorists have international connections - CDS

General Musa, revealed this when he appeared as a guest appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Thursday.

The defence chief explained that terror financiers rely on complex networks, including international connections, which make it difficult to immediately expose or prosecute them.

Speaking about the main source of financing for these groups, CDS Musa said:

“Gold. They try to circulate this money, and that is why it is important for us to be able to track these things.
“The process is on. It has to do with a lot of legal issues, and because it has to do with international connections, some of them have funds coming from outside, we cannot do anything from within.”

General Musa further disclosed that locally, terror groups employ individuals by providing them with motorcycles and small jobs, with the expectation that they remit money into designated accounts daily.

“The process is on. It has to do with a lot of legal issues, and because it has to do with international connections, some of them have funds coming from outside, we cannot do anything from within.
“The local ones, what they do normally is that they try to employ a few individuals, provide motorcycles to them, something to do, and those are remitting funds daily into some account,” he said.

CDS links military saboteurs to Benue massacre

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that General Christopher Musa, alleged the presence of saboteurs within the Nigerian military, linking them to the Yelwata massacre in Benue state that claimed over 200 lives.

Recall that in May 2025, during a television interview, Borno state governor Babagana Zulum declared some military officers and politicians of being informants and collaborators for Boko Haram terrorists in Nigeria.

He said:

“We have informants and collaborators within the Nigerian armed forces, within the politicians, and within the communities. What we shall do is to strengthen our intelligence and to deal with them ruthlessly.”

In another development, Legit.ng reported that the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Olufemi Oluyede, relocated to Makurdi, Benue, to address escalating attacks by herders and militia groups, resulting in deaths and displacement.

Lt Gen Oluyede has deployed additional troops, held strategic meetings with commanders, and will visit affected communities and operational bases to reassure residents and boost morale.
