The University of Jos, commonly abbreviated as Unijos, is a Nigerian Federal university located in Plateau State. The University was set up in 1971 as a satellite campus of the University of Ibadan. In 1972, the University admitted its first-ever students for a pre-degree program. Since then, the institution has become one of the leading academic centres in Nigeria. Below is the schedule of school fees provided by Abdullahi regarding the undergraduate school fee structure for the 2024/2025 academic session. He highlighted:

Students of the University of Jos do not pay tuition fees like their counterparts at other federal universities. What they are required to pay are school charges attached to each of the institution's services.

Unijos school fees for new students

  • With GST and Without Lab/Studio/Workshop:

First Installment: ₦130,000

Second Installment: ₦10,000

Total: ₦140,000

  • With GST/Lab/Studio/Workshop:

First Installment: ₦130,000

Second Installment: ₦35,000

Total: ₦165,000

Here is a look at the fees expected from new postgraduate students. Keep in mind that the figures are exclusive of the library usage charges, ICT, and accommodation fees.

Support for indigent students

Abdullahi also mentioned that the University of Jos has established an Undergraduate Students' Scholarship Scheme to assist indigent students facing financial challenges. He said:

In recognition of the diverse backgrounds and circumstances that students may come from, a Committee of the University Senate has been set up to manage the Scheme and develop a template aimed at assisting indigent students who are primarily orphans, of single-parentage, physically challenged, economically disadvantaged, whose parents are low-income earners or from economically less privileged communities, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), or facing other less fortunate circumstances.

  1. Financial assistance for indigent students: Indigent students who apply are expected to meet the specified criteria of having a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) score of 1.5 and be enrolled in any field of study to be eligible to receive a grant to cover at least a portion of their sessional school charges.
  2. Work Study Programme: For other students experiencing challenges in paying their school charges, the University will be implementing a Work Study Programme. Under this initiative, students who apply can engage in various roles within the University, such as in the Library, Directorate of Physical Facilities, and other Units. In exchange for their services, participating Students will receive stipends to help offset their financial responsibilities.

The University of Jos is among the most popular institutions of higher learning in Nigeria. The wide range of courses offered at Unijos makes it easy for prospective students to pursue their desired courses at the institution. The University is also relatively affordable, with fees varying slightly from one course to the other.
