Omoyele Sowore, born February 16, 1971, in Ese-Odo, Nigeria, is a prominent activist, journalist, and politician.

He founded Sahara Reporters in 2006, a platform exposing corruption, funded by Ford and Omidyar Foundations.

A University of Lagos graduate (Geography and Planning, 1989–1995) and Columbia University master’s holder (Public Administration), he led student protests as UNILAG’s Student Union President (1992–1994).

Sowore ran for president in 2019 and 2023 under the African Action Congress, initiating the #RevolutionNow movement.

Arrested multiple times, including in 2019 for alleged treason, he faced detention until 2024. Residing in Haworth, New Jersey, with his wife Opeyemi and children, Sowore’s activism continues to challenge Nigerian governance.
