NFF confirms reduced Super Eagles squad
According to an NFF statement, the squad has been trimmed from the originally planned 24 players down to just 18, after a combination of fitness concerns and clubs withholding clearance for their players made it impossible to maintain the full selection.
Among those unavailable are captain Wilfred Ndidi, Bright Osayi-Samuel and Raphael Onyedika, three of the more prominent names in the Eagles set-up whose absences will be keenly felt ahead of the Russia encounter.
Despite the setbacks, the squad still includes a number of experienced players. Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali and forward Moses Simon remain in the group, alongside striker Akor Adams. The squad also welcomes back Kelechi Iheanacho and Benjamin Fredrick, who return to the fold for this fixture.
