Gombe state - The presidential ambition of Atiku Abubakar, the flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is facing serious threats back and forth.

Mahmud Mohammed Wafa, the Gombe local government auditor of the PDP in Gombe state, has left the umbrella party and pledged his loyalty to the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) in the state, Daily Independent reported.

NNPP gaining momentum in Gombe as PDP members keep decamping

The latest development has added another strength to the NNPP in the state as the party has continued to harvest members of the PDP to its folds.

About 4 days ago, the PDP lost a former local government party chairman and state lawmaker, among many top-notch chieftains to the NNPP in the state.

It was learnt that the NNPP now has 3 of its members in the Gombe state house of assembly.

Wafa joined the NNPP on Tuesday, January 3, the same day the PDP flagged off its campaign in the Balanga local government area of the state.

The former PDP leader announced the news of his defection while speaking with journalists following his meeting with the NNPP gubernatorial candidate in the state, Khamisu Ahmed Mailantarki, at his residence in Abuja.

He disclosed that he is in the NNPP to rescue the state from the All Progressives Congress (APC) led administration that has reduced the state to hopelessness.
