Just In: APC Chairman Resigns over Crisis in Northern State

Adamawa state - The chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa state, Alhaji Ibrahim Bilal, has resigned with immediate effect.

Bilal’s resignation came amid disagreement between him and the State Working Committee of the party, according to The Nation.

The newspaper further cited sources within the party as saying the chairman may have been advised to resign having been accused of fraternising with an opposition presidential candidate among other things.

Legit.ng gathers that Bilal’s resignation letter was dated Tuesday, September 13, and sent to the national chairman of the party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu through Comrade Mustapha Salihu, the national vice chairman (northeast).

In the letter, the former APC chairman did not state the reason why he resigned.

Bilal's letter reads:

“I write to inform you that I am resigning from my elected position as the Adamawa State Chairman of our Great Party (APC) immediately
“While the constitution of APC requires me to occupy the office until 2026, I will be grateful, if I could cease from becoming the State Chairman immediately. I sincerely apologlise for any inconvenience this sudden news may cause.”

Bilal's resignation letter has been acknowledged by the APC national chairman while Sama’ila Tadawus, the state deputy chairman, has assumed office as the acting chairman pending ratification by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

Adamawa APC publicity secretary confirms Bilal's resignation

Confirming the development to newsmen in Abuja on Friday, September 16, Adawawa APC publicity secretary, Mohammed Abdullahi, said the resignation was with effect from September 13.

“However, Alh. Ibrahim Bilal has resigned from his position as the State Chairman of the Party on personal grounds effective from 13th September 2022," Abdullahi said.

The party spokesman stated that despite the disagreement and subsequent resignation, the party has forgiven the embattled chairman and would continue to treat him as a major stakeholder.

Nevertheless, Abdullahi said that the party’s constitution will be enforced if the former chairman was found engaging in anti-party activities.

He said the APC in Adamawa state "remains a united family that is desirous of ensuring victory for all its candidates in the 2023 general elections."

In another report, the APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has denied nursing grudges against the ruling party's national chairman, Senator Adamu.

Tinubu made the clarification before his scheduled meeting with the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC at the party’s headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, September 7.

The APC presidential flag bearer said it is a rarity to see big masquerades dance in a cage instead of the market square.
