BREAKING: Buhari, APC Governors Finally Reveal When Ruling Party's National Convention Will Hold

  • The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have announced that its national convention will hold in February 2022
  • Atiku Bagudu, the chairman of the APC governor's forum, made the announcement after a meeting with President Buhari
  • Mai Mala Buni, Yobe governor and APC caretaker committee chairman, also revealed while the party has not fixed a specific date in February

State House, Abuja - The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has tentatively scheduled its national convention to hold sometime in February 2022.

The chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), Governor Atiku Bagudu, disclosed this on Monday, November 22, The Nation reported.

Legit.ng gathers that Bagudu made the disclosure after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.

Bagudu met the president alongside the APC's caretaker committee chairman, Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state.

The governor of Jigawa state, Mohammed Badaru, was also at the meeting.

The meeting with APC Governors was preceded by another meeting, also behind closed-door, with Senate President Ahmad Lawan at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Daily Trust reported that Governor Bagudu explained that the month of February was chosen to enable the four outstanding states conclude their congresses and festivities in December.

Governor Buni also said no specific date was chosen because of the need to write the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and consult all stakeholders.

Meanwhile, Senator Kabiru Garba Marafa has reacted to the APC congresses that were held at short notice in Zamfara state.

Marafa, a former senator representing Zamfara central, said the chairman of the APC national caretaker committee, Buni, is on a mission to “kill” the party.

It was gathered that parallel congresses took place in Zamfara, one by a faction loyal to Governor Bello Matawalle while Marafa’s faction conducted another one.

In other news, Dr. Ben Nwoye, the immediate past APC chairman in Enugu state, has opened up on why it has become increasingly difficult to sell the party in the southeast zone.

Nwoye, speaking to The Guardian in Enugu at the weekend, highlighted factors that have continued to hinder the growth of APC in the zone.

He said that the situation in the southeast region has been compounded by feelings of marginalisation by the ruling party.
