PDP Convention: Submission of Forms Closes, Screening Commences

  • The submission of nomination forms for aspirants contesting for party offices in the Peoples Democratic Party has been closed
  • According to reports, following the convention’s time table, interested candidates would be screened by the screening sub-committee at the party’s secretariat in Abuja
  • It was further revealed that the former minister of women affairs, Hajia Maryam Ina Ciroma, was among the aspirants who submitted her form

Abuja- The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Tuesday, October 19, closed the submission of nomination forms for aspirants contesting for party offices at the October 30 convention.

The Sun reports that according to the timetable for the convention, the aspirants are to be screened by the screening sub-committee at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja.

Aspirants who stormed the PDP secretariat to submit their forms yesterday ahead of the deadline for submission of forms, include former Minister of Women Affairs, Hajia Maryam Ina Ciroma.

Ciroma, who is contesting for the position of deputy national chairman ( North), said she was in the contest in her quest to contribute the strengthening of the party.

Similarly, a former member of the House of Representatives, Debo Olugun-Agba, who is vying for the position of national publicity secretary said the opposition party must get it right so as to rescue the country.

An aspirant for the position of woman leader, Professor Stella Effa-Attoe, promised to harness the potentials of women for nation building, if voted.

Earlier, aspirants eyeing National Working Committee (NWC) positions in the PDP, yesterday, rushed to beat deadlines for submission of nomination forms too, The Guardian also reported.

The party had extended closing date for the submission of duly completed forms from Saturday, October 16 to Tuesday, October 19, 2021.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is gradually making in-roads into the southeast region.

According to the report, the party is getting stronger by the day with the mass defections of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) chieftains into the APC.

Dr. Nkem Okeke, the deputy governor of Anambra state on Wednesday, October 13, defected from APGA to the APC.

In another report, the north's consensus candidate for the national chairmanship seat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Iyorchia Ayu, has hinted at the possibility of a northerner emerging as the party's presidential candidate in 2023.

Asked if he will give up his seat to ensure geopolitical balancing if the PDP still picks its 2023 presidential candidate from the north, he said the party has agreed that party positions are not tied to executive and legislative positions.

Ayu said this in an exclusive interview aired by Arise News TV on Friday, October 15.
