Legit.ng contacted the graduate of the Federal University Gusau (FUGUS) who finished with a good result, and she explained in detail how she completed her programme at the university without an E, D, or F in any of her courses.
Lydia explained how she managed to score 42 As and multiple Bs in her courses:
"First and foremost, the grace of God made it possible. Human effort, I studied very hard, I mean very, very hard. Long hours of reading, dedication, and total belief in myself, using the Bible verse ‘I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,’ Philippians 4:13, as my anchor. Having an F is one grade that never came to mind in all my years of academics, no matter how difficult that course may seem to be."
When asked if any study habits or strategies helped her achieve such a feat in the institution, she explained:
"For study habits, I will say I studied the whole day during the exam period. I start in the mornings and just take about an hour break to eat and reset. I never did TDB (till day break); I respect nature and sleep at night no matter what. That is my reading habit. Plus, I read well when I’m alone, I isolate myself from seeing people around when I’m reading. My secret strategy is that I read every single material for any course, no matter how bulky they are. I always make sure I go to the exam hall 100% ready! I read beyond just the material given by the lecturer. And lastly, I pray, I ask God for help at any little inconvenience."
Lydia continued as she spoke about now and how she felt seeing her post go viral after she announced her graduation from the university with good results.
"Well, it is a mixed feeling, but definitely I’m so excited. I was not even aware of the viral post online until someone sent it to me saying congratulations. I feel honoured; I feel like my hard work didn’t go unnoticed, and I’m so grateful to God for everything."
Lastly, she gave important advice to students who are aiming or hoping to achieve academic excellence in their different pursuits.
"My advice to other students aiming for academic excellence is that they should work hard, believe in God, and trust Him completely. God has actually come through for me in so many ways in my academic journey. I have seen God’s miracles just by praying and believing in Him. So, believe you can, study hard, give your very best, pray, and trust God."
