Taiwo Hassan Ogogo: NANS President Reacts to Veteran Actor's Death, "A Very Painful One"

The National Association of Nigerian Students president, Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, has paid tribute shortly after the death of Veteran Yoruba Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, widely known by his stage name Ogogo,

Via his X account, writing, he said:

Taiwo Hassan Ogogo passed away on August 24, 2025, after a prolonged illness.

Legit.ng reported that Ogogo died following a prolonged battle with stage four cancer.

His daughter Kira broke the news in a live-streamed video on Sunday, August 23, appearing visibly distraught alongside other family members.

In the footage, Kira could be heard asking that her flight ticket to Nigeria be booked urgently so she could be present for his Islamic burial rites. As of the time of filing this report, the family had not issued a formal statement on his passing.

Ogogo's final months

Legit.ng had earlier reported that Kira first raised the alarm about her father's deteriorating health in an emotional public video, revealing that doctors had concluded chemotherapy was no longer a viable option given the advanced stage of the disease.

The family said they were looking into every alternative available as conventional medical routes had been exhausted.

Taiwo Hassan Ogogo built a career spanning several decades in Nollywood's Yoruba-language circuit and was regarded as one of the industry's most recognisable faces.

Ogun state governor mourns Ogogo

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun described the actor's death as a deeply painful loss. In a message posted to his official Instagram account, @dapoabiodunmfr, the governor noted that Ogogo hailed from Ilaro in Yewaland, Ogun State.

"We are deeply saddened by the passing of veteran actor and illustrious son of Ogun State, Alhaji Taiwo Hassan (Ogogo). His death is a painful and irreplaceable loss to his family, the people of Ilaro and Yewaland, Ogun State and the entire Nigerian entertainment industry," Abiodun wrote.

Ogogo, daughter warm hearts with funny posts

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that actor Ogogo's daughter, Kira Taiwo, got Nigerians talking over a post she made online.

The Yoruba film star spotted Kira's post on her Instagram page and reacted to it with surprise. Nigerians took to social media to react, as many laughed at the film star, saying he had finally eaten breakfast.
