FCT, Abuja - Suspended Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has resumed duty following the unsealing of her Senate office after six months of suspension.

Speaking to journalists, the lawmaker insisted that her suspension was unjust and politically motivated.

Senator Akpabio is not more of a senator than I am, and he treated me like I was his servant. We cannot cower in the face of injustice,” Akpoti-Uduaghan said.

As reported by Arise TV via X, she maintained that despite the suspension, she continued to serve her constituents.

“Even though I was suspended illegally, I effectively carried out my duties as a senator to Kogi Central because I didn’t want them to suffer neglect,” she added.

Senate office unsealed

The Sergeant-at-Arms of the National Assembly, supported by security agencies, unsealed Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s office, Room 205, in the Senate wing.

Her suspension followed a heated confrontation with Senate President Godswill Akpabio over the relocation of her seat. She was sanctioned for six months and asked to tender a formal apology before reinstatement.

Senate leadership meeting reached decision

Legit.ng reports that the decision to allow her return was reached during a Senate leadership meeting on 22 September 2025.

According to sources, the Minority Leader of the Senate, Senator Abba Moro (PDP, Benue South), was designated to move the motion for Akpoti-Uduaghan’s reinstatement.

The move ensures she will be physically present in the chamber when the Senate resumes on 7 October 2025.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan had previously accused the Senate leadership and federal authorities of ignoring her petition alleging threats to her life by Senator Akpabio.

She stressed that her ordeal reflects a broader struggle for fairness and equality in Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

Previously, Legit.ng reported that the senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has launched a legal offensive against the federal government of Nigeria.

Senator Natasha described the criminal defamation charges filed against her as attempted political persecution. The charges brought through the office of Lateef Fagbemi, the attorney-general of the federation (AGF) and minister of justice, were filed at the high court of the federal capital territory (FCT).

Filed by the Department of Public Prosecutions on behalf of the AGF, the suit accused Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan of making statements intended to harm reputations.
