Customs Announces Next Action Applicants Must Do as Site Crashes Minutes Before Pretest Exercise

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has instructed applicants to keep on checking as its recruitment portal crashed just minutes before the scheduled pretest exercise.

The Service recently announced a new recruitment exercise to fill vacancies across three cadres: Superintendent, Inspectorate and Customs Assistant. According to the NCS, the process is aimed at strengthening its workforce and addressing operational gaps.

Site crash frustrates applicants

Applicants who attempted to log in for the exercise were unable to access the online pretest link, as the portal repeatedly returned “Internal Server Error” messages.

A quick check by Legit.ng revealed that the pretest link displayed a 500 Internal Server Error. This left many stranded and uncertain about the fate of their applications.

Nigeria Customs issues advisory

Responding to the development, the NCS said the crash was due to overwhelming traffic on the site.

In a notice to applicants, the Service stated:

“We’re currently experiencing high traffic on the site, which may cause temporary inaccessibility. Kindly keep trying as our team works to resolve the issue.”

Nigerians express anger and disappointment

The incident triggered widespread backlash on via X, with many Nigerians accusing the Customs Service of poor planning and mismanagement of resources.

A frustrated applicant, tweeting under the handle @MNwuba41740, appealed for swift action:

“Dear Customs, I hope this message finds you well. Could you kindly look into the accessibility of the pretest link? An ‘Internal Server Error’ keeps appearing on the screen. Thank you in advance for your swift attention to this matter.”

Another user, @Vanjay__, expressed outrage, saying:
