Kenneth Okonkwo has dismissed speculation of a feud with Labour Party’s Peter Obi and pledged loyalty to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the 2027 presidential race approaches.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Friday, September 12, the actor-turned-politician made it clear that he would back whoever emerges as the party’s presidential candidate.

“Whoever wins the election of ADC in the presidential primary, I will support. I don’t have any personal problem with my brother Peter Obi,” he said during the live interview in Abuja.

Okonkwo described the ADC as the most viable political platform for Nigerians seeking credible leadership in the next general election.

He noted that the party’s structure and openness provide an alternative for citizens who want genuine change.

The former Nollywood star has been active in opposition politics since leaving the ruling party in previous election cycles.

His latest remarks are seen as an effort to strengthen unity within the ADC while dispelling rumors of division with Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate.

Okonkwo fires at Dumebi

Okonkwo lambasted the suspended former presidential candidate of ADC, Dumebi Kachikwu, for what he described as inexplicable anti-party behaviour, which was what led to his suspension in the first place.

He revealed that Dumebi, like many other key stakeholders of the ADC, was consulted by the opposition coalition before the decision was made to adopt the party as the platform through which they would contest the presidential seat in 2027.

Okonkwo asserted that Dumebi was not just suspended but entirely expelled due to incontrovertible anti-party activities. He backed this up by pointing out to others who had been suspended but had been recalled.

Okonkwo lauds David Mark's leadership

The former entertainer praised the leadership of the ADC, especially the party chairman, David Mark, who he said has excellent credentials and qualities to pilot the affairs of the movement to victory against the incumbent in 2027.

He said the former president of the Nigerian Senate has democratic values and personal discipline, which are non-negotiable qualities required of the party to have any chance at a shot to presidency in 2027.

Scores of APC members defect to ADC

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that a wave of defections had hit the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto state as several members in Gada Local Government Area formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The new entrants were welcomed by Senator Abubakar Gada, who described the move as part of a growing coalition seeking to rescue the state and the country from what he called poor leadership.

According to him, disillusionment with the APC had pushed many to embrace the ADC as a platform for genuine political change.
