Benin City, Edi state - The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has urged indigenes and residents of Edo state to embark on a two-week fasting and prayer.
The prominent monarch said the spiritual exercise is to ward off evil from the land.

The revered traditional ruler said the two-week fasting would commence from 6 am to 6 pm daily from September 15 to September 28.

The Omo N’Oba called on all Benin sons and daughters at home and abroad to fast and pray during the period.
As reported by Channels Television, the Obamedo of Benin, Efosa Igbinomwanhia, made this known in a statement issued on Monday, September 8, 2025.
“His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, CFR, Oba of Benin, uses this medium to inform the general public that from 15 September 2025 to 28th September 2025, all sons and daughters of the Benin Kingdom and, by extension, indigenes and non-indigenes living in Edo State, to embark on two weeks fasting and prayer.
“This is in line with our age-long tradition that before the commencement of the yearly new yam, it is important that we fast and pray to God Almighty and the royal ancestors for bountiful harvest and to shield us away from sudden death and for peace and tranquillity in our individual homes, families, state, and country at large.”
Edo Elders: "Stop unwarranted attacks on Oba of Benin"
A coalition of civil society organizations in Edo state condemned the "unwarranted barrage of insults and abuses" directed at the Oba of Benin.
The coalition, under the Edo Socio-Cultural Advancement and Good Governance Initiative, described the attacks as "childish, unwarranted.
The coalition stressed that the Oba's dutybound to remain apolitical and correct erroneous remarks.
Drama as Oba of Benin counters Oshiomhole
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, denied former Governor Adams Oshiomhole's claim that he advised against endorsing Godwin Obaseki in the 2016 election.
Oshiomhole expressed regret for allegedly ignoring the Oba's advice, but the monarch clarified that he never did.
The denial, witnessed by high-profile APC members, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
