Abuja - President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a policy that will provide lifetime salary benefits to senior officers retiring from the rank of deputy controller, comptroller, or commandant-general and above.

The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced this on Thursday, August 28, while speaking at the 2025 Ministerial Retreat, where he detailed the ministry’s achievements and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening institutional performance and capacity across all agencies.
This is contained in a statement signed by NPRO/Head, Corporate Services of the Federal Fire Service, DCF PO Abraham, on Thursday, following the retreat.
In it, he conveyed the minister’s appreciation for the president’s support and noted that the policy, is a major boost to officer welfare.

“The minister expressed profound appreciation to President Tinubu for his unwavering support, affirming that all agencies under the Ministry of Interior are reaping the benefits of the Renewed Hope Agenda ,” the statement read.
“We have successfully cleared the long-standing backlog of promotions,” Tunji-Ojo stated, noting that over 50,000 officers have been promoted within the last two years alone.
Speaking further, the minister emphasised that in the future, officer progression will be determined by a new system based on capacity and performance.
Nigerian Army redeploys top generals
In another development, Legit.ng reported that the Nigerian Army, led by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Olufemi Oluyede, reassigned top generals across command, instructional, and staff posts.
The move, according to the COAS, was to redouble the Nigerian Armed Forces' efforts to tackle rising security threats in the country.
The acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lt.-Col Onyinyechi Anele, confirmed this in a statement and shared further details about those redeployed.
542 senior officers retire from military
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that 542 senior officers bowed out of the Nigerian Armed Forces after 35 years of service to the nation.
The retirement ceremony, held at the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre in Lagos state, comprised 362 soldiers from the Nigerian Army, 134 from the Nigerian Navy, and 46 from the Air Force.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Oluyede, who attended the event, commended the retirees for their commitment to national service.
FG announces recruitment into Immigration, 3 others
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the National Orientation Agency officially announced a new round of job recruitment into four key public service agencies under the Ministry of Interior.
Legit.ng earlier reported that the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) on Wednesday, June 25, announced that it adjusted its recruitment schedule.
The CDCFIB announced in a statement that its recruitment portal, which was previously scheduled to open in June 2025, will now open on Monday, July 14, 2025.
