Breaking: Nigerian Governor Declares Fresh Public Holiday, Gives Reason

Dutse, Jigawa state - Governor Mallam Umar A. Namadi has declared Wednesday, August 27, 2025, as a public holiday in Jigawa state.
Governor Namadi said the work-free day is to mark the 34th anniversary of the state’s creation.

Jigawa State was created on August 27, 1991, out of the old Kano State, aimed at fostering development.
Other states created during the same time are Yobe, Enugu, Bauchi, and Kogi States.
The Jigawa State Head of Service, Muhammad Dagaceri, disclosed this in a message issued in Dutse, the state capital.
The governor encouraged the residents to join festivities and activities planned across the state to celebrate the special day.
Governor Namadi's administration congratulated all Jigawa indigenes on the milestone and encouraged them to pray for both Jigawa and Nigeria as they celebrate this historic day.
Dagaceri explained that the work-free day is meant for public servants and residents to reflect and give thanks to Almighty Allah for the state’s blessings and peaceful coexistence.
He also highlighted the importance of unity and continued development as Jigawa moves forward into its 35th year.
“The declaration aims to allow people to properly participate in the anniversary events and communal prayers without work distractions.”
He added that:
“This move reflects the state’s commitment to honouring its unique history and promoting community spirit among its people.”
Tinubu told to declare August 20, 21 public holidays
Recall that the International Council for Ifa Religion sent a crucial message to the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led federal government.
The traditionalists called on President Tinubu to declare August 20 and 21 as public holidays.
The council’s president, Fayemi Fakayode, explained the reason for making such a demand of President Tinubu.

FG declares another public holiday
In a similar story, Legit.ng reported that the Tinubu-led federal government announced Thursday, June 12, as a public holiday, in honour of the Democracy Day celebration.
President Bola Tinubu's Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the free working day in a statement on Sunday, June 8.
The minister explained that the celebration represented the historic journey of the country in nation-building, where justice and truth reign, peace is sustained, and the future is assured.
