List of Countries that Have Recognised a Palestinian State

  • Over 145 countries have officially recognized a Palestinian state, with many extending recognition since the 1988 declaration by the Palestine National Council
  • Recent recognitions in 2024 include Ireland, Norway, Spain, Barbados, Jamaica, and several Caribbean nations, with Australia, Canada, and France announcing upcoming support
  • The growing list leaves the United States increasingly at odds with some of its closest allies over Israel’s actions and the Gaza humanitarian crisis

The number of countries granting official recognition to a Palestinian state continues to rise, with over 145 nations now taking that position in global diplomacy.

Many of these recognitions date back decades, while others have been made in recent years as calls for Palestinian self-determination gain renewed momentum.

The first wave of recognition came in 1988 after the Palestine National Council declared the establishment of a Palestinian state.

Many African, Asian, and Latin American nations followed during the 1990s and 2000s. More recently, political shifts and growing criticism of the humanitarian situation in Gaza have prompted new recognitions from European, Caribbean, and other states.
