Mistakenly Killed in the House of God: Stray Bullet Ends the Life of Ebonyi Pastor While Praying

• John Onu of Glorious Gospel Fire Assembly Abakaliki has lost his life as a result of youth unrest in Ebonyi state
• The pastor was reportedly hit by a bullet when security agents stormed the area to restore peace
• Some youths were said to be burning houses in the area and the security operatives stepped in, shooting sporadically to disperse them

A pastor, John Onu, has gone to join the Lord after he was hit by a bullet while praying in his residence at Hatchery, Nkaliki road, in Abakaliki in Ebonyi state, Leadership Newspaper reports.

According to the report, he was hit by a bullet when security agents stormed the area to stop some irate youths from destroying a hotel owned by a politician.

The youths had gone on rampage, burning houses in the area after a man in the community was beaten up and he died in the process.

One of the attacked hotels belonged to one Chukwudi Onyibe, who is a special assistant to the chairman of Abakaliki local government, Mr. Emmanuel Nwangele.

Without the security agencies, the hotel would have been completely razed by the rampaging youths, Sun News added.

The security agents shot sporadically to disperse the irate youths. In the process, a stray bullet hit Pastor John Onu of Glorious Gospel Fire Assembly, Abakaliki, who lives opposite the hotel.

He was said to be observing his morning devotion when the incident happened. The bullet reportedly hit him on the heart and he died.

Southeast governor declares love for Buhari

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that a message was sent to critics of President Muhammadu Buhari by Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state.

According to the governor, he has no apologies for describing President Buhari as a man with a good heart and father to him.

He disclosed this while receiving the former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Ali Modu Sheriff, at the Government House, Abakiliki.

Calls for the Igbo presidency in 2023 too early

Also, Umahi had earlier said the calls for the Igbo presidency in 2023 were too early and distracting.

He made this statement while speaking with newsmen after meeting with President Buhari on Monday, September 6, at the Presidential Villa.

Umahi advised southeast governors and APC governors to focus on projects that would bring about development in their state, region and the country at large.

He said:

“Well, for me, I’m very much interested in completing my projects. And I will look into politics when my tenure is remaining one year, which is from May 29, 2022. And I think it is the same thing with other governors of South East and by extension, governors of APC."
